Can’t type password at the login screen in Windows 11/10

1] Restart your computer

Windows devices have plenty of issues but most of them are common and they can be resolved just by restarting the computer. Therefore, before trying the other solutions, restart your computer and when the login screen appears, see if you can type the password.

2] Use the on-screen keyboard 

If restarting the computer doesn’t work and still unable to type a password at the login screen, you can try using the on-screen keyboard. Here is how to do this –

  • Go to the bottom right corner of your login screen and click on the Ease of Access button.
  • Select the On-Screen Keyboard option from the popup menu.
  • Now type the password in the password box using the letters and numbers. 
  • Then press Enter to open the Windows.

Note: If you aren’t able to open your Windows using the on-screen keyboard, connect a USB keyboard to your device then see if you can type the password.

3] Check your keyboard for a lock button

There are some keyboards that have a lock button that disables keyboard input. You can usually find the button on the side or top of your laptop. When you turn it off, you will see the inputs in the password box, and the keyboard input should begin working.

4] Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter

If none of the above solutions work, you can try running a hardware and devices troubleshooter and see if it works. If you are running this tool, make sure you have accurately installed any peripheral devices connected to your PC.

Why can’t I enter my PIN on Windows 10?

If you are unable to log into Windows 10 with your PIN, you first need to open the NGC folder and delete everything in it. As soon as you delete the contents in the NGC folder, you can set a new PIN for your Windows 10 device.

  • So, open the Settings menu using the Windows+I keys.
  • Click on Account settings.
  • Then select Sign-in Options and click Add a PIN.
