Windows Spotlight is a feature for the lock screen on Windows 10. It downloads different background pictures & advertisements and displays them on the Windows lock screen. By doing this, it helps users to experience a fresh look every time they sign in.
However, some users have experienced an issue while running their computers. This feature got to stick to a single image and stop changing the new images. In this tutorial, we have explained two ways to fix the issue when Windows Spotlight not working.
Windows Spotlight lock screen picture is not working
Use the following methods if Windows Spotlight isn’t working on your Windows 10 computer –
1. Reset Windows Spotlight on Windows 10
If Windows Spotlight not working on your device, you have to go through four procedures. So first of all, you will have to disable the Spotlight feature then you need to remove the images that are stored on your computer. After cleaning or removing the locally stored images, reset the spotlight settings, and then you need to enable the spotlight feature. Let’s see all these processes in details:
- First of all, open the Settings app using Windows + I keys.
- Click on Personalization > Lock screen.
- In right, click on the Background dropdown menu and choose the Picture or Slideshow option.
- Now open the Run dialog box using Windows+R keys.
- Type the following path in the text field and press Enter.
%USERPROFILE%/AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Assets
- On the next page, select all the files (using Ctrl+A keys) and press the Delete key. This will delete all the images, stored on your system.
- Now open the Run dialog box again.
- In the text box, type the following path and press Enter:
%USERPROFILE%/AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\Settings
- Right-click on the settings.dat files, select Rename, then change the name to settings.dat.bak.
- Similarly, rename the roaming.lock file to roaming.lock.bak.
- Then restart your computer to apply the changes. On startup, you need to re-enable the Spotlight feature which you disable earlier.
- So, open the Windows Settings (Win+I) again.
- Then navigate to Personalization > Lock screen.
- Now, click on the Background drop-down menu, and select the Windows Spotlight option.
2. Reset Windows Spotlight settings using PowerShell
If the above method doesn’t work for you, reset the Windows Spotlight settings using the Windows PowerShell and it should definitely solve the problem. The steps are as follows:
- Right-click on Start and select Settings.
- In the Settings app, navigate to the Personalization > Lock screen.
- Now move to the right pane, click on the Background drop-down menu and then choose the Picture or Slideshow option.
- Now open Windows PowerShell with admin access.
- Inside the PowerShell app, type the following command and press Enter:
Get-AppxPackage -allusers *ContentDeliveryManager* | foreach {Add-AppxPackage "$($_.InstallLocation)\appxmanifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode -register }
- After running the above command successfully, restart your computer.
- Now again open the Settings app using Win + I keys.
- Select Personalization > Lock screen.
- Go to the right-pane and click the Background drop-down menu and then choose Windows Spotlight Windows Spotlight from the list.
After performing the above steps, use the Windows + L keys to lock your computer. Now see if the new images are appearing on the Lock screen.
