1. Troubleshoot Windows update
In case of experiencing any update-related issues, users should try running the Windows update troubleshooter. This is an in-built tool that can diagnose the underlying causes and address them. To troubleshoot the Windows update, do the following –
- Press Win + I to launch the Settings app.
- Click System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Once you are there, you may find the Run option beside Windows update.
- Click on this button, and the system will force open the troubleshooter.
- Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the remaining steps.
2. Reset Windows update components
For a smooth upgrade to Windows 11, all update-related services should be enabled and running on your computer. In case any one of these services is disabled, that will either obstruct upgrading to Windows 11 or even sometimes a fresh installation of the new OS.
You may open the Services window, and check if the below services are running on your PC –
- Windows update
- Cryptographic
- Background Intelligent and Transfer service
Another thing that may also trigger this error 0xCA00A009 is filled Windows Cache folders namely SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2. 3. Run SFC and DISM scans
Corruption inside the System Image or system files/folders may also cause different issues on Windows 11 PCs including error code 0xCA00A009. There are two separate tools that you may run to fix such issues in one go. Here’s how you can do that –
- Right-click anywhere on the desktop screen and select
New > Text document
. - When the notepad comes into view, copy/paste the below set of commands inside it.

- Go to File and hit the option – Save As…
- Type “SFC/DISM.bat” next to “
File name
“, and use the “Save as type” drop-down menu to select All Files. - Hit Save to save this file on the desktop screen.
- Come to the Desktop screen next, right-click on the newly created batch file, and hit the option – Run as administrator.
Let both these scans run automatically. Once these scans are over, make sure to restart your PC.

4. Update Group Policies
If you have recently switched to Windows 11 and are getting this bug, we suggest checking all your group policies for once. This is because these group policies must have been corrupted or outdated in the absence of any recent security updates for Windows.

- Now, add a space, append ‘-update’, and click OK.
- Doing so will register your default directory.
- Execute this command next –
gpupdate /force

5. Clean Install Windows 11
