Fix Windows Update issue due to Microsoft Server outage

There are times when even the download process gets stuck and shows an error message “we couldn’t connect to the update service” during the upgrade.

You can fix this problem by changing the settings in the Network & Internet Settings and running the Windows Update Troubleshooter. Follow the steps below to fix this problem

Windows 11/10 comes with a feature called Windows Update that allows users to download and install quality updates and features. With Windows Update, you can keep Microsoft Windows and many other programs up-to-date. Windows updates are often packed with new features and security updates to protect them from malicious software and malware attacks

Even though Windows Update usually runs smoothly, sometimes it can encounter a problem. When this happens, an update may not install, or it may get stuck. Further complicating the matter, Windows Update’s error messages are inconsistent and rarely helpful, blocking you from finding a solution.

Here is how to solve the Windows Update issue due to Microsoft Server outage on your system-

Change Network & Internet Settings
Run Windows Update troubleshooter

1. Change Network & Internet Settings

This error occurs at Microsoft Servers end or it might be associated with the DNS. Therefore, simple troubleshooting won’t work here. However, you can follow the below workaround. Here are the steps-

Go to the right pane of the system tray and right-click on the Network icon.
Select Network & Internet Settings.
Switch to the right-hand side of Settings, and hit change adapter options.
Succeeding after making a right-click on Network Adapter and choosing Properties from the context menu.
From the list of items, tap Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IP4) then hit the Properties option.

Henceforth click on the “Use the following DNS Server addresses” radio button and assign the following Google DNS server addresses.

8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

At last hit OK to save the changes then close all tabs.

Now retry to do Windows Update and check if you can do the task without having an issue.

2. Run Windows Update troubleshooter

If you apply the above workaround but the same problem continues while downloading the Update, the issue might be in Windows Activation. To avoid this trouble you need to perform a Windows Update troubleshooter. Here is the procedure-

Press the “Win logo + I” to launch Settings.
Now hit the Update & Security category then Troubleshoot on the left column.
Switch to the right pane and click on Windows update.
Next, press the Run the troubleshooter button. This will automatically detect the actual problem and repair it if possible.
