The Start Menu is the biggest visual change on the new operating system ‘Windows 11’ that is going to come by the end of Oct 2021. As opposed to Start titles, the new menu features a search bar, pinned apps, a link to view All apps, and a recommended section. The lower half of the Start Menu is termed “Recommended” and consists of all of your recent works.
This helps to easily access the work that you just finished, recently opened programs, and many more. Though this is a useful feature to start with, some may find it unnecessary. If you are one such user and want to disable Start Menu recommended section, this post is for you.
Note: In case you want to disable this feature just for the sake of introducing other items, you are mistaken. After you hide this section, all you can see is a recommended section with a link to turn them On by opening Start settings.
Hide Recommended Items on Windows 11 Start Menu
Here’s a quick way to disable viewing the Start Menu Recommended section on Windows 11 –
- Press Windows Key + I to start the Settings app.
- Select Personalization on the left pane and head over to the right side.
- Click Start to view its contents.
- Find and disable the toggle switch next to – “Show recently opened items in Start, Jump Lists, and File Explorer”.
- That’s it, close all windows, and restart your PC.
Sign in to your computer again and hit the Windows icon. You will no longer see any items that you have recently opened in Start, Jump Lists, or File Explorer.
How to add personalized folders or apps besides the Power button
Accessing any folder is quite easy these days on any version of Windows. Still, this may occur to you to add your personal apps, folders, or other settings in such a way that you can easily access or open them. This section will elaborate on such things clearly –
- Right-click anywhere on the desktop and select Personalize.
- Go to Start and when it expands, click Folders.
- You will see a list of items that you can add left of the Power button.
- For your better understanding, I have added a few items to this list. See the Snapshot below –
- Close the Settings app, and re-open the Start Menu.
- You may find all of the selected items displaying left of the Power button.
